The canonical two-surface pattern: a `containers` entry in .cowork/project.json gives the app its own rail icon, whose `app` renders the sidebar pane and whose `open.file` opens the editor page beside it. Navigation in the pane, content in the page.

Use this shape when you want both a glanceable summary and a full working surface — most real apps end up here. In Cowork: Create → App → Sidebar + workbench app.

Create it

This template is built into Cowork Studio's Create dialog. Open Manage Workspace, pick the matching tab, click its Add button and choose Sidebar + workbench app — name it, and the files land in your workspace ready to edit.

Code

// .cowork/project.json — what the template registers
{
  "containers": [{
    "id": "my-app",
    "title": "My App",
    "icon": "$(window)",
    "app": "Cowork/my-app/my-app-sidemenu.jsx",
    "open": { "file": "Cowork/my-app/my-app-page.jsx" }
  }]
